# Install Recordstead

Download Recordstead on an [Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later](https://docs.recordstead.app/getting-started/requirements).

## Install it

1. Open the [Recordstead download page](https://recordstead.app/download) and choose **Download for Mac**.
2. Open the disk image and drag Recordstead into Applications.
3. Open Recordstead from Applications.


## The setup window

First launch opens **Set Up Recordstead**. Use **Continue** to review your
Mac’s readiness, what happens after a call, the transfer code, microphone and
processing choices; the last step ends with **Done**. The microphone permission
appears when that step asks for it. System Audio Recording is requested during
your first actual recording. [Your processing trial](https://docs.recordstead.app/getting-started/start-trial)
starts when the first eligible processing job is ready.

## Skipping it costs nothing

You can close setup and return later. Home shows **A few things left** for
unfinished steps, and Help ▸ **Setup Guide** reopens the walkthrough.

## Where the app lives

Recordstead waits in the menu bar. It shows a Dock icon only while one of its
windows is open. [Record your first meeting](https://docs.recordstead.app/getting-started/first-recording) when you
are ready.
