# Edit a summary

Fix a wrong line or add what the summary missed. You edit the summary's own
text, which is written in Markdown.

1. Open the meeting and choose **Edit Summary** from its actions menu (⋯), or
   right-click the meeting in **Meetings**.
2. Change the text. Headings start with `#` and list items with `-`. Changes
   save as you type.
3. Click **Done**, or press Esc.

**Your result:** the summary shows your text and reads **AI-generated, edited
by you. Review for accuracy.** An exported summary also records that you
edited it.

Editing needs no license. It is unavailable while Recordstead is still working
on the meeting.

## Update a summary you edited

Updating writes a new summary from the transcript, so Recordstead asks first
with **Replace Your Edited Summary?**. Click **Update Summary** to go ahead.
Transcribing the meeting again or naming its speakers also writes a new
summary, without asking. Either way, your edited text becomes the previous
version.

## Bring back the previous version

Choose **Restore Previous Summary** from the meeting's actions menu to swap
the summary with its previous version. Choose it again, or press ⌘Z, to swap
back.

Only one previous version is kept. After your first edit it is the generated
summary; after an update over your edits it is your edited text.
