# Find the version you are running

Settings is where Recordstead shows the version it is running. This page is
about finding it; how a newer build reaches you is on [Keep Recordstead up to
date](https://docs.recordstead.app/getting-started/updates).

## In settings

1. Open **Settings** (⌘,).
2. Select **General**.
3. In the **Software update** section, find the line that begins with the word
Version. What follows it is the build you are running. If the line names a
newer build instead, an update is waiting: install it, then read the line
   again.

The line is selectable, so you can copy it.

## Result

You have a version string you can paste into an email.

## When you write to support

Quote the version, and say what you expected to happen. It is the whole of what
identifies your copy: a version is only ever built once, so naming it names one
exact build.

**Help** ▸ **Send Feedback…** opens a draft that already carries the version, so you do
not have to copy it across. What happens to an idea or a report once it arrives
is on the [support page](https://recordstead.app/support).
