# Back up your meeting library

Back up Recordstead's app-managed folder, not just its export folder. The
meeting list, transcripts and summaries live in the app-managed data; an
external recording destination holds audio only and cannot restore the
library by itself.

:::caution[Save a transfer code for another Mac]
The copied meetings are encrypted. To open them on a different Mac, you need a
transfer code from the original Mac while it still works. [Get the code before

## Copy the library

1. Quit Recordstead.
2. Copy the whole `~/Library/Application Support/com.recordstead.app/` folder
   to your backup. Keep its contents together.
3. If you have moved recordings to an external drive, S3 bucket or SFTP
   server, preserve that archive too. Those files are outside the app folder.

**Your result:** you have a copy of the meeting library and, where needed,
