# Move your meetings to another Mac

The new Mac cannot read a copied meeting library without a transfer code from
the **working original Mac**. Get and save the code before you move files.

## Get the transfer code

1. Open **Settings** (⌘,) and select **General**.
2. Find **Your meetings**, and under **Move to another Mac** click
**Get Transfer Code…**. If Settings says you already saved a transfer code,
use that code. The same code works for every move.
3. A sheet titled **Your transfer code** shows it. Click **Copy Code**, put it
somewhere safe, tick **I have saved this code**, and click **Done**.

**The code is shown once and is not stored.** Save it in a password manager,
separate from the copied library. If you click **Cancel** instead of **Done**,
nothing is saved and you can get a code later.

## Copy the folder

Use **Show in Finder** to locate the library folder. Close Recordstead, then
copy that whole folder to the same place on the other Mac,
`~/Library/Application Support/com.recordstead.app/`, using Migration
Assistant, a disk or a network share.

## Unlock them on the other Mac

1. Install and open Recordstead on the new Mac.
2. If you copied the folder with a disk or a network share, open **Settings** ›
**Storage** › **Recordings storage** first and set it as it was on the
original Mac. Your settings are not in that folder, and the default rule
removes local recordings of transcribed meetings after 7 days.
3. Enter the code when **Meetings found from another Mac** appears, or in the
Recordstead window if it says your meetings are locked, then click
   **Unlock Meetings**.

**Your result:** Recordstead restarts with your meetings.

## Reconnect external recordings

The copied folder does not include recordings already moved to an external
destination. Preserve that archive too. After unlocking, [reconnect the
archive](https://docs.recordstead.app/your-data/reconnect-recording-archive) on the new Mac. The archive
alone cannot recreate the library. S3 and SFTP passwords and keys stay in the
original Mac's Keychain, so you may need to enter them again.

## If you lost the code

If you closed the sheet without clicking **Done**, get a code on the original
Mac while it still works. After you click **Done**, Recordstead cannot show
that code again or make a new one, and the copied library cannot be unlocked
without it. Your meetings stay readable on the original Mac.
