Let Recordstead start when a call starts
With Call Detection on, Recordstead notices that a call has started and records it without you doing anything. It is off after every launch, on purpose.
Turn it on
Section titled “Turn it on”- In the menu bar, choose Recording ▸ Start Call Detection (⌘S). The same switch is in the menu bar panel and on Home.
- The first time only, Recordstead asks you to accept what automatic recording means: that a recording can begin without another action from you, and that it does not tell the other participants. Tick I accept responsibility for notice and consent for every automatically started recording. and press Turn On.
That is it. Recordstead is now watching, and Stop Call Detection turns it off again.
What counts as a call
Section titled “What counts as a call”Any app that opens the microphone. There is no list of approved meeting apps and nothing to configure: a video call, a phone-style call in a chat app, and a voice message you record all look the same from the outside.
You narrow it down by exclusion rather than by selection. See below.
When recording starts and stops
Section titled “When recording starts and stops”Recording begins shortly after an app takes the microphone, and ends once the microphone has been idle for a while. That idle period is yours to set: open Settings, select Call Detection, and the Stop recording after row takes a number of seconds without microphone activity. The default is 15 seconds and the range is 1 to 120.
Short pauses in a conversation are far below that, which is the point of the delay.
It has to be on every time
Section titled “It has to be on every time”Call Detection does not survive quitting Recordstead. Every launch starts with it off, and something that records your calls unattended should be a decision you make rather than a state you inherit.
When a recording starts by itself
Section titled “When a recording starts by itself”A Meeting Detected notification tells you. A recording you started yourself sends no notification, because you already know.
Stop it reacting to one app
Section titled “Stop it reacting to one app”While an automatically started recording is running, the toolbar offers Stop & Ignore for that app. It ends the recording, discards it, and adds the app to the Ignored apps list in Settings › Call Detection, where you can remove it later.
Result
Section titled “Result”Calls record themselves until you turn Call Detection off or quit the app.
