Delete a workspace, and choose what happens to what is inside

Deleting a workspace asks one question first: whether what is inside it should move to Personal or go with it. Moving loses nothing. Deleting is permanent and has a second screen in front of it.

Delete a workspace

1. Click the workspace at the top of the main window's sidebar and choose Manage Workspaces….
2. Use the delete button at the right of the row you want to remove.
3. Read what the workspace holds. The sheet counts its meetings, its saved voices and its Dictionary terms before you choose.
4. Choose Move everything to Personal or Delete all of it, then click Continue.

Move everything to Personal

Nothing is lost. Meetings, the templates you wrote and the record of who was recognized where all move across.

Two kinds of content can collide with something already in Personal, and each one resolves differently:

• People. Both are kept, and the arriving one is renamed with the workspace it came from:

  Duplicate people become "Olena (Acme)".

  Two saved voices under one name are two people, and merging them is not a decision a delete dialog gets to make.

• Dictionary terms. Where the same term exists in both, Personal's spelling wins. A term left with no spellings of its own is dropped, because it would no longer correct anything.

Delete all of it

This one is permanent. Continue opens a second screen, where Delete Workspace stays unavailable until you tick Yes, delete all data inside this workspace.

That screen repeats what is about to go, and then says:

Everything is removed from Recordstead and can't be recovered here. Exported files and your own backups aren't touched.

Each meeting goes through the same permanent deletion as a meeting you delete on its own, so what disappears is the same in both cases. See Delete a meeting, and what deletion removes.

Personal cannot be deleted

Its row has no delete button at all, rather than one that refuses. Personal is where Recordstead started, where the other choice sends a workspace's content, and where the app puts you if the workspace you were in stops existing.

If it will not delete

Recordings from it are still in the queue. Both choices are refused while Recordstead still owes that workspace work, because the recording would either be dropped or come back to a workspace that is gone. Wait until the queue is empty and try again.

Some files could not be removed. Occasionally the workspace goes and a few of its files do not. Recordstead tells you how many and removes them later on its own. There is nothing to do.

Result

The workspace is gone from the list, and everything it held is either in Personal or removed.
