Use the Claude Code or Codex you already have
Recordstead can hand the transcript to a copy of Claude Code or Codex that is already on your Mac, so the write-up is produced on your own account with that provider rather than through anything Recordstead runs. You need the tool installed and signed in first: Recordstead never signs you in and holds no account of yours.
Point Recordstead at it
Section titled “Point Recordstead at it”- Open Settings… (⌘,) and select Summary.
- Open Provider and pick Claude Code or Codex.
- Read the notice that appears and confirm it. Nothing is sent before you do.
- Wait a moment while the pane reads your installation. It says Checking this Mac while it works, and the rows below stay empty until it has something true to put in them.
What the pane tells you
Section titled “What the pane tells you”Once it has looked, a line under Binary names the product, the version it found and whether you are signed in. That line is the whole answer to "will this work": if it says you are not signed in, sign in to that tool the way you normally would, in Terminal, then press Recheck.
Everything below that line is read from the install it found, not from a list kept inside Recordstead:
- Binary lists every copy it found, by full path. If you have two, this is where you say which one runs.
- Model offers what that copy actually supports. Two Macs can show different names here, and so can one Mac after the tool updates itself.
- Reasoning is greyed out when your version of the tool has no such setting. Leave it on Default unless you have a reason.
When your copy is somewhere else
Section titled “When your copy is somewhere else”Recordstead looks in the usual install locations, including the ones a version manager uses. It cannot cover every possibility, so Choose… is next to the Binary row in every state, including when a copy was found. Use it to point at the file yourself.
If the file you pick does not answer as the expected tool, the pane says That file did not identify itself as Claude Code rather than accepting it quietly. If nothing was found at all, it says Nothing found in the usual places. Install Claude Code, or choose the file yourself.
Result
Section titled “Result”Under the provider's name the pane reads Runs the Claude Code installed on this Mac, on your own account., the line above it names a version and a signed-in state, and Model shows a real model name. Your next meeting is written up by that install.
What this does not change
Section titled “What this does not change”The transcript still reaches that provider's service, under your agreement with them rather than with Recordstead, and what leaves your Mac says exactly what is sent. Confirming one tool never confirms the other. Audio is never sent on either path.
