You said no to a permission and need to undo it
macOS asks for the microphone exactly once. Say no and the prompt never returns, so the only way back is System Settings. System Audio Recording is never asked for in advance at all, which means a refusal shows up as a recording with nothing on the other side rather than as a dialog you can answer again.
Put it right
Section titled “Put it right”- Open Settings… (⌘,) and select Advanced.
- In the Permissions section, find the row that does not read Granted.
- If it reads Denied. Click to open Settings., click it. Recordstead opens the matching pane in System Settings for you.
- Switch Recordstead on there.
- Come back to Recordstead and press Refresh.
For the Microphone, the pane is System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone.
For System Audio Recording, let the row open the pane rather than looking for it yourself.
When macOS says yes and nothing is recorded
Section titled “When macOS says yes and nothing is recorded”A row reading Not working. Toggle it off and on in System Settings. means exactly that: macOS reports the permission as granted and it is not working. Switch Recordstead off in that System Settings pane, switch it back on, then press Refresh in Recordstead.
Recordstead's own updates should not cause this. A new build carries the same signature as the one you granted, so macOS keeps the permission and does not ask again. If a row turns Not working straight after an update, the toggle above still clears it, and it is worth telling support, because it should not have happened.
Result
Section titled “Result”Every row in Settings › Advanced › Permissions reads Granted, and your next recording has both sides in it.
