Where your recordings, meetings and exports live

Recordstead uses two folders. One belongs to the app and holds everything it records; the other is yours, and only receives what you explicitly export.

The app's own folder

~/Library/Application Support/com.recordstead.app/

Your recordings and the databases that describe them live here. You cannot point this somewhere else, and Recordstead does not ask you to choose it. To back your meetings up, copy this folder while Recordstead is closed.

What you copy stays encrypted, which cuts both ways: a backup on a disk somebody else can reach is still unreadable, and a backup restored onto a different Mac needs the transfer code before Recordstead can open it. Get that code while the Mac these meetings came from still works.

Your export folder

~/Documents/Recordstead/exports/

This is the one folder you choose. Open Settings… (⌘,), select General, and the Export folder row shows where it points. Choose… moves it; Reset puts it back to the default above.

Nothing arrives here on its own. It fills up only when you export.

Getting things out

In Meetings, right-click a meeting:

Export… writes its summary and transcript.
Export Audio writes a copy of the recording as a .wav file.

Neither one asks you where to put the file. Both write into the export folder and then tell you, with a Show in Finder button on the confirmation.

A transcript is not a file

Transcripts and summaries are rows in a database, not documents on disk. This is why deleting something in Finder does not delete a meeting, and why a meeting survives even if its audio file is gone. Deleting is done from inside Recordstead.
