Release notes
Builds are listed here newest first, and this is the page What's New opens after an update.
0.1.0-beta.1
Section titled “0.1.0-beta.1”Published 9 September 2026. The first invite-only build.
If this is the version you are running, you have the newest one; see Find the version you are running to check.
How a new build reaches you
Section titled “How a new build reaches you”Recordstead updates itself. Once a day it asks Recordstead whether a newer build exists for you, downloads it quietly in the background, and installs it the next time you quit the app. You do not have to look for a link or reinstall anything.
To take an update sooner, click Restart to update at the bottom of the main window's sidebar, under the list of sections. The same offer is an icon in the bottom row of the menu bar panel, marked with a dot. Recordstead quits, replaces itself and reopens. If you would rather not see the sidebar offer again for that version, right-click it and choose Hide until the next version; the update still installs when you quit.
Nothing is checked, downloaded or installed while a recording is running. An update that is ready during a recording waits, says so, and installs afterwards.
After an update, a message names the new version and offers What's New, which opens this page.
Turn it off, or turn part of it off
Section titled “Turn it off, or turn part of it off”- Open Settings… (⌘,).
- Select General.
- Under Updates, use the two switches.
Check for updates automatically stops the daily check. Download and install automatically leaves the check on but stops the download, so nothing is fetched and nothing is offered. Both are on to begin with, and the setup guide asks you about them once when you first run Recordstead.
Result
Section titled “Result”Recordstead runs the newest build you have been offered, and tells you which one that is.
What an update keeps
Section titled “What an update keeps”Your meetings, your settings, your saved voices and your trial stay exactly as they are. Recordstead does not ask for microphone or system audio permission again, and it does not ask you to unlock your archive twice.
Going back to an older build is not offered, and an older build you install by hand will refuse to open an archive a newer one has already written, rather than change it.
Which build you have
Section titled “Which build you have”Recordstead shows its version in Settings. See Find the version you are running.
