Install Recordstead from your invitation

Recordstead is in an invite-only trial, so there is no download page. You get a private link, and it works for 24 hours.

Install it

  1. Open the link you were sent. It downloads one disk image.
  2. Open the disk image.
  3. Drag Recordstead into your Applications folder.
  4. Open Recordstead from Applications.

If the link has expired, the page it opens says so. Ask whoever invited you for a fresh one; a link that ran out costs you nothing.

The setup window

Instead of a main window, first launch opens a window titled Set up Recordstead. It has Back and Continue, and its footer counts the steps, for example Step 3 of 7.

Seven steps in the build you were sent, in this order: what your Mac can do; what you get after a call; whether Recordstead keeps itself up to date; your invitation code; a transfer code, which is what lets another Mac read your meetings later; the microphone; and how much processing to run. The last step's button reads Done.

Two of them do something rather than explain something. Allow, on the step about what you get after a call, is what asks macOS for permission to notify you. Pressing Continue on the microphone step is what brings up the microphone prompt.

Skipping it costs nothing

Close the window whenever you like. Home then shows a card headed A few things left with whatever is outstanding, and the window itself is always available again from Help ▸ Setup Guide, or from the card's Walk me through it again. The item above it, Recordstead Help, opens this documentation.

Where the app lives

Recordstead is a menu bar app. After setup it has no Dock icon until you open its main window, and the mark in your menu bar is where recording starts and stops.

Result

Recordstead is in Applications, its mark is in your menu bar, and you are ready to make a recording.
